I don't know how to explain this but it's simple In another server of minecraft there was option to add people as your friends you can message them and you get notifications of when they join or not, this server is amazing but it's hard to communicate with friends without private messages or skype or etc, it's only a suggestion but if this happens it will help lots of people to communicate between them.
