Hi Before I get into this, I only want a response from aXed. I didn't want to post publically however unfortunately he is literally impossible to reach. I'm not looking for input from Jacky20, or any other staff from survival, nor Elise, as for some individuals their judgement may be compromised, and I simply want clarification on the rule, and an explanation on why situations are treated differently for no obvious reason. I want to query the rules in survival regarding building very large structures on claimed/unclaimed land. A player, Develter, was banned for building a lavacast. Image below: https://i.imgur.com/Z3W5v9G.png I am not personally involved in the situation whatsoever, however the way in which rules can be bent is something which happens a lot and it's very confusing. Here's what happened: The player started building these structures next to someone elses claim (you can see this in the image above) Initially, what he was building was only partially claimed. When he completed it, the player claimed it fully. The admins issued him with a griefing ban. I don't understand why this has happened. There seem to be two reasons why he was banned He built this next to another person's claim He built it on unclaimed land (after which it was claimed). Can you please chase this up with the relevant people, to see whether the ban was fair, and also for further clarification of the rules surrounding griefing? Frankly if you actually view the situation from the perspective that the server has a low playercount, and people are spending time on the server actually building things, it should not be bannable. He didn't do it to piss anyone off, and he didn't do it to ruin another person's gaming experience. Players are putting a lot of effort into their builds on the server, for them to be banned with minimal explanation when the server administration take advantage of ambiguous rules simply isn't fair and only makes the rest of the players nervous regarding what they are, and are not allowed to do. There have been other situations with players (staff members) who have done this more maliciously, for example: This admin built an obsidian wall around my claimed area last reset maliciously. I was providing free housing for new players on the server and he ruined this. I was also an admin at the time and he was a moderator. Jacky20 said this is not griefing on the basis that the wall he built wasn't claimed. Why is it that a clearly malicious situation does not result in a ban, however someone expressing their creativity to build something that doesn't affect anyone else receive a ban? I look forward to hearing back.
The Griefing rules are as follows This ban has already been removed and purged from the players record. It seems the player was banned for building next to a player's claim. As the only claiming that is not allowed is "bitch claiming" where you claim a small portion of land and don't make use of it just to block another player from expanding. Claiming next to others is allowed and if the original player who was claimed by wants to expand they can come to an agreement with the other party on their own to be able to expand in that direction. Claiming all-around an existing claim though will fall under the category of "bitch claiming" as this stops the original player from expanding at all. I hope this clears this up, if you have any more questions please feel free to message me on discord Elise#1886 Kind Regards, Elise
Thanks @Elise1886 for your response and for the clarification of the rules surrounding griefing. The player's unban report was initially denied by an admin from survival, however am glad to see that someone higher up has now resolved the situation for this player. My closing comments are that the head admin needs more training in how to approach players, de-escalate situations, and to generally make better judgements. I later learned from an admin that no one spoke to the player before he was banned regarding this, apart from one warning in the public Discord chat which made little sense: That is akin to saying "If you don't turn on the power before using your hair straighteners, your hair will not be straight". To imply that if he did the first thing, the consequence would be avoided. The syntax is screwed and the player misunderstood the situation. Perhaps Jacky should avoid using Compound-complex sentences so that he can make his intentions known, even though they go against what the rules actually are. Thanks again.
So Im just joining in here for a question. What about the "Building a obsidian wall around someones claim without claiming the wall" issue that Fox also talked about? Is that against the rules then? Should that person be punished?
Personally, if it isn't claimed I'd say no and take the free resources If it's claimed and is literally just a wall to stop expansion then it is a bitch claim
My most recent ban was by Doc for "reach and too many bans" as a joke because we wanted to see what players would say, also i have tons of false bans that look bad on me but i appeal and got myself unbanned, can i appeal for it to be purged?
