There have been several reports of accounts being "hacked" lately, so I decided to post some information on passwords and account hacking.

First, there are different things meant by "hacking" an account. The traditional meaning is that someone has retrieved the password file from the server and decrypted it, exposing one or more user passwords. This is what "hacking accounts" really means, but this isn't what is happening here.

Another meaning of hacking accounts is when someone guesses your password and accesses your account, or was given the password at some point. This is usually the scenario in hacking accounts in games. How to prevent that?

#1 - NEVER EVER give anyone your password. That password is the only thing that protects your account from misuse by others; don't share it for any reason, with your brother, your friend, or someone who promises to build you an OP farm. Let me say again: NEVER EVER share your password.

Guildcraft staff will never ask you for your account password. If someone says they're staff and asks you for it, they're lying.

#2 - Create a strong password for your account. Many people find this tedious, as you have to type that password in a lot, and they don't want to. Using "qwerty" as a password is very easy to type every login, but it's also easy to guess. If Axed used the password "qwerty" then his account would be hacked immediately.

A strong password has both UPPERCASE and lowercase letters, at least one number, and possibly symbols. Here are some examples:

    - qwerty (bad)
    - password1 (bad)
    - username123 (almost as bad)
    - My2017GCPass (pretty good)
    - Guild^17_Craft^drowssap (excellent)

#3 - Using words broken by symbols or numbers (as in "min1ecr3aft" instead of "minecraft13") and spelling words backward ("ellehciM" instead of "Michelle") can be useful. That uses words that are easy for you to remember, but hard for others to figure out the way you used them.

#4 - Never use the same password for multiple websites or servers. If someone hacks your gmail password, you don't want them to also get access to your bank. Same with mc servers: use a diffeeent password for each one.

If you've made a difficult password and you don't want to type it in every time you log in, there are mods that allow you to automate this. The password is stored on the client side, so DO NOT use this method if other people also use your computer to play. They can run the script just as easily as you can, and now they're logged in as you.

My favorite is the macro/keybind mod, which requires LiteLoader:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forum...39-macro-keybind-mod-1-11-2-version-available

If you have ever given out your password to anyone, or if you can't remember if you've shared it, or if you have an easy password, then you need to change it right away!

Password security is important, and if you treat your password with proper respect, your account will never be hacked.

You could also use a password manager to create strong passwords (like KeePass).
All you have to do is store your username and password in KeePass, then if you want to login you just copy & paste your password into minecraft. :)
Atleast, thats how I made my password.

With this guide, everyone will try to guess long and strong passwords; now the correct thing to do is put weak passwords to make hackers confused. So, is a weak password more safe than a strong one now? :thonking:

Open a notepad, bang your head on the keyboard, copy the password, use it and then save the notepad file for later use!
