Hey GC, Since GC is down well thats where they always are, Ive been playing this rather cool open source FPS named Xonotic. Its practically a modern day remix of Quake and Unreal Tournament. It requres no installation and is Cross-Platform.
It is also a very small game (800mb) I suggest you give it a try.

I have played the original ID1 plus i still play Half-Life 1 and still waiting for Hl2 ep3

 

I am a fan of Quake-Like games, They is alot of fast paced action in them. Also Im using xonotic for LAN play mostly its hard to setup steam games on 32 computers in a computer room

 

ye quakelive is paid since 2015 but quake3 is still free (second link)

 

by the way i tried logging in to GC with 1.9 and it said outdated server..

seems like we are getting 1.10 ?

 

Dont think so. Theres cnnection pobs i think?
The server texts say 1.8 actually!
